Hello readers, I’m so very excited to share this post with you all! I love finding new legit ways to help other’s find a side hustle, whether it’s for getting out of debt, creating a savings, or even leave the 9-5 grind and do your own thing.

This post is kinda special to me since this guest is someone I know personally and dearly and when I saw what she was doing (and having tons of fun doing it!) I had to reach out to her and introduce her to you all. This guest is Brandie Romero, and she literally turned her passion into a small side income for her family. Can you guess what the hobby is???

It’s Messy! It’s Fun! And ANYONE can do it!

How did you get into painting? (have fun, tell a whole story!)

I have always liked drawing, coloring and painting. It’s therapy for me when I am stressed. Just being able to paint and see the outcome is exciting. I started watching acrylic pour painting and was like, “I want to try it.” So I did and BAM here I am with the help of friends and family. My girls, ages 6 and 9, both love doing the painting as well and will paint their own as well. My oldest will even show you how to do “dirty pours” if you need help. My girls absolutely love making art and selling them. And yes, they have sold a few pieces. So proud of them. ❤

What kind of painting do you do? (the materials and the type of painting)

There are so many techniques, the sky is the limit. A few of my favorite pours are “dirty pour”, which is taking your paint, layering them in a cup in whatever order you want them in, and then putting the cup on the canvas – lifting the cup up and it pours out onto the canvas.

“Negative space pour” is the space around and between the subject of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject forms an interesting or artistically relevant picture: meaning I would pour a white paint down to cover the whole canvas, I would then take a mini cup, layer my colors and in a swirl go from one corner diagonally down to the other corner slowly and gently squeezing the cup, once all the paint is out tilt it side to side and then the white paint becomes the negative part of the canvas.

Get the materials here:

“Coke bottle pour” which is exactly what it sounds like. I take the bottom of a plastic coke bottle, cut it off the bottle, put it down with the bumps in the air take my cup with my layered paint colors and slowly pour it over the coke bottle until all gone. Once all the paint is done, I tilt back and forth, side to side till the canvas is covered and BAM my project is done.

How did you go about selling your first piece?

You know, I wasn’t all for selling my items until I went to a festival, and an older gal and her husband saw my picture frame that  I made/painted and was “Look, look honey I love it”. Then she asked how much, I told her and she was like “Heck yes I will buy it.” That was the greatest and most happiest moment as I thought “wow SOMEONE LOVES WHAT I DID”!!! 🙂

What ways do you promote your stuff? (social media platforms, online stores?)

I Promote my stuff by word of mouth, social media, friends, family, co-workers, going to festivals. I pass out my business cards, make flyers, brochures and being a part of a few different acrylic painting groups.  Come check out my instagram here!

How much do you sell a piece for?

It all depends on the size and what you want done to a canvas. I have sizes ranging from 4×4, 5×7, 8×10,16×20 to 24×32, any size you can think of. Prices can range from $10-75 dollars.

side hustle income

What are your plans for the future for your side hustle?

My plan for the future is to keep my passion going. Making custom and unique art, picture frames and etc. This might sound funny but within time I would like to be able to host parties for painting, party host to show the different types of paintings you could do. Any kind of art you can think of can go anywhere. The sky is the limit!! Never give up!

Can you send me a few pictures of your art?

Yes of course, I’d be honored to.

extra income with paintings

So as you can see, it’s not hard to turn what you LOVE into some extra income. You have heard the saying, “You do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.” This can be true for you too! Brandie does work as a Dental Assistant full time as well, so for now this is a fun hobby that can lead to profit. Go check her out, read some more fun posts on this here blog, and have a magical day!
